May 15, 2008 Garmin Mobile™for BlackBerry® Introduces a Lifetime of Navigation
OLATHE, Kan./May 15, 2008/PR Newswire—Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), the global leader in satellite navigation, announced today a one-time-purchase plan for Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry. This one-time, $99.99 purchase is only available in North America and will give customers who own BlackBerry devices unlimited use of Garmin Mobile’s turn-by-turn, voice prompted directions for the life of their specific BlackBerry. Users will also have unlimited access to Garmin Mobile’s dynamic content such as traffic, weather conditions and forecasts, fuel prices and more. The one-time purchase Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry is designed to meet the navigation needs of customers who prefer a one-time purchase rather than continuous monthly payments. “Garmin is one of the first to offer a one-time purchase navigation package for BlackBerry devices,” said Charles Morse, Garmin’s director of mobile and online marketing. “Having turn-by-turn directions on a BlackBerry is essential to mobile professionals because it takes the stress out of navigating to that important business meeting or child’s soccer game. It helps people arrive at their destination every time, while taking into consideration uncontrollable variables like traffic.” Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry is easy to use and offers users extreme utility especially when traveling in unfamiliar areas. Users can navigate to addresses in North America, or search millions of points of interest (POI’s) – places like hotels, restaurants, shopping, and tourist attractions. Once a destination is selected, Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry automatically calculates the fastest route to the destination, and provides voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions along the way. If a turn is missed en route, Garmin Mobile automatically recalculates the route based on the user’s current location. Map data is provided by NAVTEQ – a world leader in premium-quality mapping. Since Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry’s mapping data is stored online and not on the BlackBerry device itself, customers have the advantage of the most up-to-date mapping information available directly from Garmin. In order to access Garmin’s network with the mapping data, the BlackBerry device must have a data plan. BlackBerry customers will also have access to real-time traffic, fuel, and weather information. The real-time traffic service identifies accidents, road construction, or other incidents affecting traffic, and routes users around the congestion. The fuel feature displays helpful fuel information such as the filling station’s name, fuel price, type of fuel, and distance to the station. Real-time weather information lets users see weather conditions and forecasts at their current location or anywhere in North America. Those customers using a BlackBerry without embedded GPS may need to pair their BlackBerry with the GPS 10x™, a highly sensitive, portable GPS sensor that receives location data from the GPS and transmits that information to the BlackBerry via Bluetooth wireless technology. The GPS 10x is not included in the $99.99 one-time purchase. Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry’s $99.99 one-time purchase is available directly from Garmin at www.garmin.com/mobilephones. The one-time purchase plan for Garmin Mobile for BlackBerry is not transferable between BlackBerry devices.
Garmin® Navigation to Be Standard Equipment in Suzuki SX4
OLATHE, Kan./April 28, 2008/PR Newswire —Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), the global leader in satellite navigation, announced today that it would provide an integrated navigation system for the new 2009 Suzuki SX4 as standard equipment. The program marks the first time in America that a vehicle under $16,000 will include GPS navigation as a standard feature. “We’re delighted to work with Suzuki to make Garmin navigation standard equipment on the Suzuki SX4,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “The device includes a fully integrated mount that allows for elegant mounting inside the vehicle, but also makes it easy-to-remove for adventures on foot. And Suzuki has customized it with its own set of fun and useful destinations and points of interest.” Based on Garmin’s popular nüvi 700 series of premium navigators, the Suzuki T.R.I.P. (Travel, Real-time traffic, Information and Play) system has maps of North America pre-loaded, and has a bright 4.3-inch touchscreen display with nearly six million points of interest (POI) – places like restaurants, hotels, ATM machines, and more. While a base version of the navigation system will be included on these vehicles as standard equipment, users can upgrade to a premium navigation device with the SX4’s upgrade package. This enhanced navigator includes next-generation dynamic content from the MSN Direct network, including up-to-date traffic information, fuel prices, and weather reports. The system also offers news and stock market information, local events, movie listings, and the ability to plan trips and look up destinations on a computer and then wirelessly send them to the device. Owners can pair most Bluetooth-enabled phones with the device, for hands-free calling. The system is also uniquely integrated into the SX4’s audio system. Drivers can listen to the radio or CD player, and the audio will automatically lower when their navigation device gives a voice prompt or when there’s an incoming Bluetooth-enabled phone call. Furthermore, the MSN Direct antenna is seamlessly integrated into the vehicle’s existing antenna, and it continuously is collecting the most up-to-date data. Suzuki is enhancing the unit’s POI database by adding a number of lifestyle-oriented, Suzuki-recommended destinations and landmarks to the system. These locations include hip music venues, popular surf spots, offbeat road trip attractions and other activity-focused destinations that are clearly marked with a Suzuki “Way of Life” icon on the navigation screen. A dedicated community site will also be launched to support the sharing and downloading of user-generated recommendations for destinations and drive routes among Suzuki SX4 owners. 2009 Suzuki SX4 models are scheduled to arrive in dealer showrooms this summer.
March 31, 2008 Garmin Mobile™ Application To Offer New Features On BlackBerry, Symbian and Windows Mobile Smartphones LAS VEGAS/March 31, 2008/PR Newswire —Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), the global leader in satellite navigation, announced today upgrades to Garmin Mobile that include a new user-friendly interface and Google Local™ search. These upgrades will be available on a variety of handsets and platforms including BlackBerry, Symbian and Windows Mobile smartphones. These new features are in addition to a long list of rich features and real-time content included with Garmin Mobile’s current subscription based service that includes turn-by-turn, voice prompted directions, as well as traffic, weather conditions and forecasts, fuel prices and more. Garmin will display the Garmin Mobile enhancements at its CTIA Wireless trade show booth (#6639) in Las Vegas, Nevada, April 1-3, 2008. When the new Garmin Mobile application is launched, customers will first notice the new nüvi-like interface, with “Where To?” and “View Map” icons on the smartphone display. Once “Where To?” is selected, colorful icons such as “Address,” “Recent Finds,” “Food and Hotel” and “Google Local” streamline the number of keystrokes required before selecting a destination and receiving turn-by-turn, voice-prompted directions. If a turn is missed en route, Garmin Mobile automatically recalculates the route based on the user’s current location. Garmin Mobile has an extensive points of interest database – places like hotels, restaurants, ATMs, gas stations, airports, and more – thanks to the over six-million integrated points of interest and Google Local search. Garmin Mobile is also integrated with the phone’s address book so that users can navigate directly to a contact’s address stored on their smartphone. The Google Local search capability lets users harness points of interest information via the World Wide Web. It allows users to look for locations by typing in key word searches as they would if they were on their desktop computer. If looking for a coffee shop with free Wi Fi access, simply type the phrase in the search box and a list of venues will appear based on proximity to the user’s current location. In addition, Garmin has created a “quick search” feature that lets users search Google Local via categories – such as food, lodging, fuel, and more – rather than typing a word or phrase into the Google Local search box. Detailed information can be displayed including descriptions, business address & phone numbers, and a user-contributed rating, where applicable. Once the user selects a location, they can save the destination to their favorites folder, call the destination, or navigate to it with Garmin’s intuitive turn-by-turn, voice-prompted directions. In addition to navigation, Garmin Mobile includes free access to constantly-updating information like real-time traffic, fuel prices, weather forecasts, and more. Since Garmin Mobile is a subscription based solution, mapping data is stored on Garmin’s servers, not on the device itself. Therefore, customers have the advantage of the most up-to-date mapping information available directly from Garmin’s servers. In order to access Garmin’s network, the smartphone must have a data plan for network access. The newest version of Garmin Mobile is rolling-out on BlackBerry, Symbian and Windows Mobile OS smartphones in July 2008. For more information about Garmin Mobile, visit www.garmin.com/mobilephones.
March 31, 2008 Garmin®Simplifies Searching, Sending and Navigating to Locations through Google Maps LAS VEGAS/March 31, 2008/PR Newswire —Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN), the global leader in satellite navigation, today announced that users can now send locations found on Google Maps™, an innovative online mapping service, directly to their Garmin personal navigation device. “Given the amount of time we all spend at a computer or in our cars, teaming with Google Maps gives users the versatility of planning their travels at their keyboard in addition to their Garmin device,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales. “There’s no need to waste time printing, scribbling or e-mailing locations and directions when you can use Google Maps to search for and save everything you need with just a couple of clicks.” The process is quick and easy. Users begin by searching Google Maps for a specific business or a broader category – “Kansas City barbecue,” for example – and the results will appear on a map. The desired location can then be saved directly to the Garmin device through the Send-to function. This reduces delays, including delays that can be caused by intermediary software, so that users can immediately resume their search for more places or get in their car and go. "This is part of our ongoing effort to connect Google services like Google Maps with Garmin products,” explained Giorgio Scherl, a product manager for Google. “We continue to add progressive features, such as user-generated content, to make Google Maps more compelling and useful in an increasingly mobile world.” The Send-to-Garmin feature is available at Google Maps, as of April 1. Garmin will have information about Google Maps and other new announcements available at garmin.com and at its CTIA Wireless trade show booth (#6639) in Las Vegas, Nevada, April 1-3, 2008.To learn more about using the new Send-to-Garmin feature, visit www.garmin.com and www.garmin.blogs.com.

March 18, 2008 Garmin® Named Global Leader in Portable Satellite Navigation CAYMAN ISLANDS/March 18, 2008/PR Newswire/ - Garmin Ltd. (NASDAQ: GRMN) today announced that it is the global leader in portable satellite navigation sales, having sold more personal navigation devices (PNDs) in 2007 than any other manufacturer. The research was provided by Canalys, a leading independent technology market analyst firm. “These figures validate our associates’ hard work and commitment to innovation, value, and satisfying our customers,” said Cliff Pemble, Garmin’s president and chief operating officer. “What’s even more impressive is that these figures only include PND sales, and do not include the robust demand for Garmin’s outdoor, fitness, marine, and aviation products which further broadens our leadership in location-based products and services.” Garmin’s market breadth is another major reason why it can lay claim to the title of global satellite navigation leader, having delivered an industry leading 31 million GPS-enabled devices since the company’s inception in 1989. Garmin posted $3.18 billion in revenue in 2007, a 79 percent increase over 2006. In addition to 115 percent revenue growth in the automotive/mobile segment in 2007, Garmin posted a 19 percent revenue gain in its outdoor fitness segment, a 22 percent gain in marine revenue, and a 27 percent revenue increase in its aviation segment. The three non-automotive segments accounted for more than a quarter of Garmin’s overall revenue in 2007. “Garmin achieved the worldwide number one spot for mobile navigation devices in 2007 by performing consistently well in Europe, more than doubling its shipments on 2006 and increasing its market share, while also retaining its clear lead in the booming U.S. market, which grew to represent 34.7 percent of the total worldwide market in 2007. Garmin had an enviable 47 percent share in the US in 2007, and the market quadrupled in size,” said Chris Jones, Canalys vice president and principal analyst.

Garmin® Introduces Enhanced nüvi® 2x5 Series, Bringing More Features, Options to Affordable Navigation

OLATHE, Kan./March 4, 2008/PR Newswire — Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN), today announced the next evolution of the nüvi 200 series, the entry-level favorites in Garmin’s popular nüvi line. The low-priced nüvi 2x5 models, a family of new products introduced at CeBIT, improve upon the features of their 200-series predecessors while providing the opportunity to add top-of-the-line features such as improved mapping and routing features, faster satellite acquisition, navigation by photos, FM traffic updates or dynamic content from MSN Direct.

“The nüvi 2x5 products allow us to meet and exceed the basic needs of the budget-minded consumer while giving them further opportunity to expand,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin’s vice president of worldwide sales.  “By making traffic and MSN Direct content accessible with our most basic nüvi models, the choice is truly in the buyer’s hands. Pick a price, and there’s your nüvi.”

As portable and powerful as ever, the nüvi 2x5 models are available in vibrant 4.3” or 3.5” screens with an all new shaded elevation mapping display.  Using Garmin’s unique Web site — Garmin Connect Photos — users can choose from millions of geo-located photos provided by Google’s Panoramio photo sharing community and download them to the nüvi for a richer navigation experience using pictures as a guide.  The nüvi 2x5 series features a fast 333 Mhz Microprocessor which greatly enhances the map drawing and routing capability.  In addition, satellite reception is even faster than before thanks to Garmin’s new HotFixTM feature which automatically calculates and stores critical satellite information and can use that information to quickly calculate a position without waiting for data collection from the satellites.

The nüvi 255 and 255W will be available in versions that include comprehensive coverage of North America, Europe, Australia or New Zealand. The nüvi 255 and 255W models for North America, Australia or New Zealand announce street names in their voice prompts, advising you to “Turn right on Walnut Street” rather than just saying “Turn right in 500 feet.” The nüvi 205 and 205W will be available in versions that offer mapping choices such as the contiguous United States, Canada or regional sections of Europe.

In addition, each nüvi 2x5 comes standard with the popular “Where am I?” feature. At any time, with a single tap of the screen, drivers can display their exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and gas stations.

When used with an optional receiver, each nüvi 2x5 can display important updated information from Traffic Message Channel or MSN Direct. The enhanced dynamic content from the second generation of the MSN Direct network includes updated information about traffic conditions, fuel prices, weather reports, movie listings, headline news items, stock listings, local events and custom locations sent directly from Windows Live Local. New York/January 30, 2008/PR Newswire -Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN) and the world's leading GPS manufacturer, today announced its entrance into the mobile phone market with the nüvifone, an all-in-one, sleek and slim, touchscreen device that combines a premium phone, mobile web-browser, and cutting-edge personal navigator. The nüvifone is a work of art in features, design and functionality and is destined to transform how individuals connect, communicate and navigate their life.

"The nüvifone is an all-in-one device offering unmatched integration of utility and function in a single mobile device," said Cliff Pemble, Garmin's president and COO. "This is the breakthrough product that cell phone and GPS users around the world have been longing for - a single device that does it all."

The nüvifone is an innovative mobile phone that has a wide range of advanced yet easy-to-use features. The all touchscreen device is the first of its kind to integrate premium 3.5G mobile phone capability with an internet browser, data connectivity, personal messaging, and personal navigation functions in one device.  When powered on, the 3.5-inch touchscreen display reveals three primary icons - "Call," "Search," and "View Map" which allow the user to effortlessly master the nüvifone's functions.

The nüvifone is the ultimate multi-tasker. Calls are easily initiated by tapping the "Call" button and selecting a name from the contact list or by using the on-screen keypad.  When the user is trying to juggle talking on their phone while entering their vehicle to start a trip, the nüvifone makes the transition simple. When the nüvifone is docked onto the vehicle mount, it automatically turns on the GPS, activates the navigation menu, and enables hands-free calling so that the user never misses a beat in the conversation and is able to begin routing to their destination with ease.

Customers familiar with Garmin's industry leading nüvi® product line will feel right at home using the nüvifone's personal navigation features. It includes preloaded maps of North America, Eastern and Western Europe, or both, and allows drivers to quickly find a specific street address, establishment's name or search for a destination by category using the nüvifone's built-in database with millions of points of interest. Turn-by-turn, voice-prompted directions guide the user to their destination. If they miss a turn along the route, nüvifone automatically recalculates a route and gets them back on track, speaking the names of the streets along the way.

The nüvifone is Garmin's first device to include Google local search capability, which harnesses the vast point of interest information available from the world wide web.  Nüvifone users can search for locations like "coffee shops" and Google will sort the results based on the user's current location and relevance.  Information provided by Google includes a web-based rating so that users can select the most appropriate destination and route directly to it.  In addition, the nüvifone includes a web browser incorporating premium features and touchscreen operation for an optimum mobile browsing experience.  The nüvifone also includes personal messaging functions, including email, text, and instant messaging.

For the ultimate in safety, the "Where am I?" feature lets users touch the screen at any time to display the exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and gas stations. The nüvifone also helps drivers find their car in an unfamiliar spot or crowded parking lot by automatically marking the position in which it was last removed from the vehicle mount.

In addition to navigation, the nüvifone includes access to Garmin OnlineTM, an online service offering constantly-updating information such as real-time traffic, fuel prices, stock prices, sport scores, news reports, local events and weather forecasts.

The nüvifone also includes numerous mobile entertainment applications.  The built-in camera allows individuals to take a picture that will automatically be tagged with the exact latitude and longitude reference of where the image was taken. The user may then save the image so they can navigate back to the location, or email the image to a recipient who can navigate directly to the location. The nüvifone also provides direct access to millions of geo-located landmark and sightseeing photographs available through Google's Panoramio picture sharing site.  The Panoramio photo search feature enhances the enjoyment and adventure of sightseeing in an otherwise unfamiliar location.  Other multimedia functions of the nüvifone include a built-in video camera, MP3 and MPEG4/AAC.

Garmin anticipates that the nüvifone will be available in the third quarter of 2008. Specific details about pricing and sales partners will be announced in the future. Additional information about nüvifone is available at www.garmin.com/nuvifone.
